Big Faith (Blues) - Lyrics

Album: St. Mary's Street
Written by: Mark Searcy Middleton

Well listen up everybody, I got a story to tell
It might sound crazy, and I don’t mean maybe, cause I just got out of jail
I was crusin down the hiway, doin about a hunderd and ten
I was smokin a stogie, with a girl from Muskogee, sippin' on a bottle of gin
I heard this great big noise, loud as it could be
I had a flat tire, my car's was on fire, how much worse man could it be?

So I pulled over the side of the road, I was just about to cry
I was havin’ a lil fun, I was makin’ a run, all the way down from Ohio
Before I could dry my tears, I saw blue lights starin’ at me
I uz havina bad day so I started to pray I need help from someone higher
And I heard the lightning strike as I fell down on my knees
It was a great big man with a gun in his hand, pointed straight at me

Just when you thought it could be no worse
You walk into one more devil's curse
Have faith my dear friends
It'll be right in the end
With the knee bendin' big faith now blues

I tried to explain myself, as he yelled deep in my ear
I was lit like a match, I was trying to catch, every drop left in my beer
He's gonna take me back to jail, make my life a livin' hell
I'll be livin' on a cot, just about rot, and eatin beans, (oh my dear)
AndI heard my baby say, as she picked up my ring-a-ling
Ya moms on the phone, you better get home, your pappa just went insane
For killin' a man, no gun in his hand, just a flush in a poker game
Your brother just set the whole house on fire, and took the last cent I had
Grannie's on the rooftop a dancin' about - I think everybody's goin mad

Just when you thought it could be no worse
You walk into one more devil's curse
Have faith my dear friends
It'll be right in the end
With the knee bendin' big faith now blues

So I took the phone, put mamma on hold, put a bourbon in the Trooper's hand
Have you ever seen such a crazy ole sight as a monkey in a rock and roll band
Then I pulled out a million dollar bill, and I set that thang on fire
A real good man, he can never be bought and a woman is a devil's hire
Then I reached high in the sky, and I pulled down a puffy cloud
And I rode that thang, as the angels sang - hallelujah – i'm heaven bound

Just when you thought it could be no worse
You walk into one more devil's curse
Have faith my dear friends
It'll be right in the end
With the knee bendin' big faith now blues
